Bob Z's review of March 25th:

The Town Board Meeting went VERY well.  Three people spoke in favor
of the Long Island Lighthouse project.  Kate Murray was enthusiastic and
receptive to us.  She offered help and support, as well as access to
information, so that we may continue to be involved in and follow along
with the process.  She advised that the environmental studies have all
begun or are about to begin.  She offered to help get us in contact with
Helena Williams of the MTA, to find out some info on the plans for mass
transit access to the Lighthouse.  She said she was encouraged to see
people showing up to express their interest in the project, and she
offered us the resources of the Town Attorney.

The town attorney said he was aware of us.  He knew about Town of Hempstead
Night and that we, specifically, were in the stands.  Unfortunately,
they thought it was going to be "an ambush".  We tried to express that
we were there to show support, and not to ambush.  He said he is a
long time Islanders season ticket holder, and says that he wants what we
want...  but he said the problem is, there's 15,000 Islanders fans, who
go to games and want a new buidling...  but other than that, nobody
cares.

THAT is a BIG problem, in my opinion.  If they perceive us as
not caring, then they have no voter-enduced motivation.  We spoke with
the attorney for a good period of time.  He had told us that the Town can
discuss rezoning applications and environmental studies and all that
with the Islanders, but until the Property Owners (Nassau County) say
it's okay to move forward, there's only so much the Town can do.  The
Town offered a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of support.  We had a very
good reception, and I think we advanced the ball a bit.  We're now on
record.

Newsday was at the Town of Hempstead meeting, as well.
She said that her article on the meeting should appear in
Newsday.

No MAJOR revelations, but a warm reception and a good beginning.
We weren't anticipating anything Tremendous at this point.  Like they
said, we're in the very early stages of this whole thing.  But it's good
to know that we're all on the same page, and they expressed willingness
to help.

When asked if it was possible that we break ground in 2009, the attorney
said he guessed that it could be possible, but seemed skeptical that
anything would happen that quickly.

We also passed out Orange ribbons to the Town Board Members.
Ms Murray was very appreciative of the gesture.

I have a few extra ribbons, if anybody wants.

Bob
